This listing is for a downloaded PDF sewing pattern, NOT a finished product. Your download should immediately pop up after purchasing, but you can also log into your account at any time and download the package again. Your downloads will include a professionally drawn pattern with trimless pages and layers.
The pattern pieces included are formatted for 8.5×11, A4 (typically outside of the US), Projector, and A0 printers. Please remember to NOT use the A4 pattern unless you are located outside of the US and own an A4 printer and A4 paper. The A0 pattern is specifically designed for large format printing. You have permission from 5 out of 4 Patterns to have this pattern printed at your local copy shop.
The separate tutorial download includes hyperlinks to help you navigate to whichever options you’re interested in doing. It also includes professionally drawn images for each tutorial step as well as pictures for steps that might be a little tricky. We take great pains to make the tutorial as clear as possible!
The Men’s Swim Trunks pattern is available for men’s sizes XXS-5XL. The size chart and fabric requirements are listed in the last image. Got a tween in the house? Check out the smallest sizes, you might be surprised that he fits into them!

These swim trunks are amazing!
It’s an easy sew if you follow the instructions step-by-step (especially the waistband part for beginner sewists – there are a few detailed instructions that are VERY important to follow).
the end result – a professional looking pair of amazing swim shorts that even my picky Husband loves (and wants more of!).
I highly recommend topstitching for that pro look, and have fun with C/L in your pockets (with grommets for draining) – we used Mario, and Husband loves the fun fabric inside.
Once you make one, you’ll never buy another pair of swim trunks again!

My husband is a big fan of 5 out of 4 patterns. He’s super picky about how things fit him, but he loves every 5 out of 4 pattern we’ve tried. So when I was looking for a swim short pattern for him, I was relieved to find this one. As always, he loved them! We go to the beach or the pool every weekend and these are always the first shorts he reaches for. I will definitely make another pair! Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Pattern is well drafted and goes together smoothly. I didn’t have grommets for the pockets, so I made buttonholes and they turned out great!

Do you think it would be easy to extend the pattern to bring the waist up above the belly button? My husband has a stoma bag and doesn’t want to wear swimming trunks now as they are all low.

What are the measurements for the 5xl pattern? Trying to make trunks for my 12 foot Skelly so I need them pretty large.
