Yesterday we assembled our pattern and cut out our fabric and today we are going to start construction.
First up is the bra portion of the Agility pattern. For these steps you will need the front and back bra pieces (main and lining) as well as your support layer and/or nursing layers if applicable.
If using the Agility as a bra or if you have a larger bust and need more support, I recommend adding a layer of power net. For non-nursing versions, cut your support layer using the front bra piece, baste it to the wrong side of your lining fabric and then treat them as one. For nursing versions, it is best to cut your support layer using the nursing layer pattern piece as a guide. I suggest adding more support to the nursing layer since the front bra piece will have slits cut in it to provide nursing access. Your support layer of power net should be between the outer and lining pieces of the nursing layer.
*If you are adding removable bra cups, refer to pages 19-20 of the Women’s Agility Pattern for instructions.
There are also 2 other blog posts that are very helpful for adding either removable bra cups or sewn in cups. You can find the posts here and here.
For non-nursing T-back option, place right sides together and stitch the t-back to the front bra at the shoulder seams. Next stitch bra front to bra back at the side seams with right sides together. Repeat for the lining. Now take and put your lining layer inside the outer layer so that WRONG sides are together. Remember that bottom of your t-back will not be sewn down until later.
For non-nursing strappy back option, stitch bra front to bra back at the side seams with right sides together. Repeat for the lining. Now take and put your lining layer inside the outer layer so that WRONG sides are together.
For the nursing Agility tank, you will need to apply the Nursing layer arm and neck bindings BEFORE stitching the front and back pieces together at the side. If you comfortable doing bindings, feel free to go ahead to the next steps, or you can pause here.
Curious about the full Sew a Long schedule? Well here it is:
Day 1: Assemble pattern and cut out fabric
Day 2: Construct bra front and back
Day 3: Assemble tank/dress overlay
Day 4: Bindings
Day 5: Catch-up
Day 6: Finishing touches (Hem, band, drawstrings, etc.)
Day 7: Post your completed Agility for a chance to win
Feel free to go at your own pace, just remember to post your progress pictures in the daily thread once they are added to the 5 out of 4 Facebook group. With so many options, some days will have more construction than others but we hope the schedule will allow amble time to complete your Agility as well as receive support if you need help with any of the steps.
You can find the Day 2 thread here or search #5oo4AgilityDay2 in the 5 out of 4 Facebook Group.
