I remember being a kid and having so many fun goodies in my stocking. Everything from candy to jewelry to fruit… it was all so fun. While I still have a stocking it remained empty every Christmas until I started asking for the fun, small, useful sewing supplies. I’ve compiled a list of stocking stuffer ideas for you. Welcome to the 2019 Gift Guide: 10 Stocking Stuffers for All Sewists.

Let’s jump right in!
1- Washaway Wondertape
Washaway wonder tape is recommended in nearly every one of our pattern tutorials. It’s amazing stuff and makes life so much easier. This makes for a great stocking stuffer because it’s something you might choose to go without because you don’t consider it a necessity… I mean, I firmly believe it’s a necessity so you should always have some.

2- Wonderclips
When it was suggested that wonderclips were amazing I didn’t listen. Apparently I’m super stubborn because I also rejected Washaway Wondertape when Jessica told me to try it. I don’t know what I was thinking because these items are amazing. You absolutely NEED wonder clips!

3- Cutting Mat, Ruler and Rotary Cutter
I combined these three things because you need a rotary cutter to use the cutting mat and vice versa… and, well, you’re going to need a ruler. This little group of helpers is amazing and help to save tons of time!
Yeah, I know, the cutting mat is a little big, well, a lot big for a stocking stuffer but ya know… It made the list.

4- Scissors
I used to buy SUPER CHEAP scissors. When I gradually leveled up I really began to appreciate the value of a good pair or two of scissors. I still use cheapies for cutting paper but when it comes to fabric my Gingher Spring Action Shears are AMAZING!

5- Seam Ripper
Seam rippers come in all shapes and sizes. There are some pretty amazing hand made seam rippers out there that make amazing gifts! Check this one out from Hatch Skills. It’s amazing!

6- Pattern Weights
I’ve wanted pattern weights for a long time but it wasn’t until I was roaming around Home Depot one day that I finally got what I wanted. Small marble tiles make perfect pattern weights and the price isn’t too bad either. You can even add some fun vinyl to decorate them. I haven’t gotten around to the decorating part but I use them every single day!

7- Magnetic Pin Cushion
Now that I have Wonderclips I don’t use pins as much BUT a couple years ago I got this great little magnetic pin cushion. It’s amazing and it holds everything I need. I’ve dropped so many pins on the floor and this makes clean up a cinch.

8- Thread
The reality is if we’re going to sew we’re going to need THREAD! I buy all my thread from Wawak. Why? Well, it’s easy, decently priced and they ship FAST. I generally buy large quantities at a time and Wawak makes that easy.

9- Measuring tools
There are all sorts of hem gauges out there. I tend to use the same cheap ones that I used when I first learned to sew many years ago because they work. I have two, an old one I bought at an estate sale 15 years ago (I can’t believe I haven’t lost it) and a singer brand. They both work and I like having more than one.
Additionally, if you’re going to sew, you need measuring tape. Measuring is important! I have this pretty cool Clip and Slide Measuring Tape I found at The Crafty Gemini. It’s pretty neat and I really love it. I do suggest replacing your soft/plastic/fabric measuring tape regularly as they can stretch out. We need accurate measurements so a good functioning measuring tape is important.

10- Knit Stay Tape
Knit Stay Tape is something I found this summer and have fallen in love with. Essentially, it’s thin strips of very light weight one-sided fusible knit interfacing. It’s great for stabilizing shoulders seams, hems, etc. I mainly use it to stabilize the hem of very stretchy fabrics like sweater knits or rayon spandex. It’s helped me get some lovely curved hems and just brought more structure to my finishes. Worth every penny.
