This listing is for a downloaded PDF sewing pattern, NOT a finished product. Your download should immediately pop up after purchasing, but you can also log into your account at any time and download the package again. Your downloads will include a professionally drawn pattern with trimless pages and layers.
The pattern pieces included are formatted for 8.5×11, A4 (typically outside of the US), Projector and A0 printers. The A0 pattern is specifically designed for large format printing. The A0 version also works well for projectors! Please remember to NOT use the A4 pattern unless you are located outside of the US and own an A4 printer and A4 paper. You have permission from 5 out of 4 Patterns to have this pattern printed at your local copy shop.
The separate tutorial download includes hyperlinks to help you navigate to whichever options you’re interested in doing. It also includes professionally drawn images for each tutorial step as well as pictures for steps that might be a little tricky. We take great pains to make the tutorial as clear as possible! We’ve even included links to our YouTube channel, where you can find video tutorials on certain steps.
The Sophie Top and Dress pattern is available for women’s sizes XXS-5XL. The size chart and fabric requirements are listed in the last image.

Such a fun summer dress! I chose to make the knee length dress with plain hem, half circle sleeves, collar and placket.
Things I especially like are: the many options included in the pattern, the dress has pockets (yay, pockets!), the 3/8″ seam allowance, the drafting of different armscyes for sleeveless vs. sleeved bodices.
The pattern had a drafting error. It has since been corrected and I verified that the current downloadable pattern no longer has the error.
I had some trouble getting the placket ends neat on both my toile & the final dress. I’m pretty sure that
it’s my technique fail and not the pattern but I did find it a bit tricky despite the detailed instructions. YMMV.
I don’t like the armscye sizing. I definitely had to size up in the armscye.
I will definitely make another version, probably a top. 5oo4 rates the difficulty of the pattern as “adventurous beginner”. I think that’s fair. I definitely wouldn’t recommend the pattern to a true beginner but I think that it’s reasonable for someone who has made woven garments before. There are detailed instructions and a very active FB group for additional support.

This was my 5oo4 birthday free pattern and I love it! Such a fun and easy sew. I made the knee length ruffle skirt with bound neckline and arm holes. The directions were great and although my dress is far from perfect, mostly because I chose a tough to work with fabric, it’s totally wearable and will be the perfect first ice cream cone of the summer dress. Thanks so much for the birthday treat!
