The star napkin ring is a great project for making festive napkin rings for picnics. They easily hold all the silverware and napkin in one nice bundle, making it easy for guests to grab their own things quickly. Plus, it makes your table settings look adorable! This project is super easy and fast! It also takes just a few scraps to make! Would you like to make a star napkin ring, or maybe a bunch of them?! Let’s go!
Materials
- Fabric scrap for the napkin ring
- Felt scraps for the stars
- A button or other embellishment (optional)
- Sewing machine and basic sewing supplies
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Silverware and napkin
- Star template (I just printed a large and small star shape)
Cut Fabric
- Cut 1 piece of fabric for the napkin ring. Mine is 6 inches by 5 inches.
- The finished measurements of my napkin ring are 5 inches by 2 inches.
- Use your star template to cut 2 stars out of felt.
- My large star is 4 inches and the small one is a little over 2 inches.
Time to sew your star napkin ring
- Take your fabric and fold it in half.
- You will be matching the 5 inch sides.
- Sew along the edge.
- Press your seam open.
- Turn the napkin ring right sides out.
- Maneuver it so that the seam is in the middle and give it a good press.
- Fold your napkin ring in half with right sides together.
- The side with the seam is the wrong side.
- Sew along the edge
- Finish your seam allowance.
- I used a serger to finish my seam. If you don’t have a serger, you can use a zig zag stitch on your sewing machine.
- Turn the napkin ring right sides out.
Now, your star napkin ring needs it’s star!
- Use your hot glue gun and put hot glue on the back of the little star.
- Glue the little star onto the big star.
Embellish your star, if you want
- You can use a small button like I did or use fabric markers or paint and draw on your star. Whatever you want!
- I put some hot glue on the back of a button and glued it to the center of my small star.
Attach the star
- Now, you need to attach the star to the napkin ring.
- Put hot glue along the seam of the napkin ring.
- Place the wrong side of the star on top of the seam and glue it down.
Ta Da! You’ve made a star napkin ring!
- Slide the star napkin ring over your napkin and silverware and you’re done!!
- I hope this little project brightens up your next picnic!
