We are making such great progress on our Shenanigans Sewalong! Today we get to start on the ‘pretty’ part of our project…the skirt!
Shenanigans Sewalong Day 4: Assemble Skirt and Hem
For me, the best part of a project is personalizing an item to be one-of-a-kind. Yes, there are times that I make a pattern as-is, but it’s always fun to experiment – even if it’s just with fun fabric combinations! For this project I wanted to ‘dress-up’ my skort a bit for everyday wear and thought front pockets would be an easy, useful modification. Because let’s face it, moms NEED pockets! I LOVE the pocket design of the Zen Pants, so I decided to give them a try with this pattern – and they fit perfectly. Happy, happy! Simple patch pockets would also work well, too. IF you plan to add pockets, do so now before assembly of the skirt.
Let’s get sewing:
Step 1: Sew your side seams as instructed in the tutorial.
Step 2: If you are adding a flounce, attach flounce to your skirt bottom as instructed in the tutorial; otherwise, skip to Step 3.
Step 3: Hem the bottom of your skirt or flounce.
Instead of hemming the bottom, I chose to do a cute little rolled hem with my serger – super easy, super quick, and no frustration of keeping an even hem. 🙂 It’s my new favorite thing. I was terrified of trying a rolled hem for the first time, but I am so glad I stepped up to the challenge! I use it more often than I ever thought I would.
And that’s it! You did it! You finished Day 4 of the Shenanigans Sewalong!
Tomorrow we wrap up the Shenanigans Sewalong in one cute little package – our finished skort!
