Riptide Reversible Shorties Sew A Long Day 3

June 14, 2017 in Sew Along by Maryanna Powell

Today we sew the two pairs of shorts together, attach the leg elastic and sew the gusset to the front.

For step 3, I chose to combine a and b and sew this with a zig zag stitch instead of serging. Make sure you pre-stretch your elastic several times. I clipped my elastic to the wrong side of my fabric A. You will want to stretch lightly but not so much that it causes gathers. The elastc will go from the front of the gusset and around the leg to the hole you left in the front.

Shorts are right sides together with fabric B inside fabric A and clear elastic is clipped to the wrong side of fabric A.

Clear elastic sewn on with a zig zag stitch.

Turn your shorts right side out. The gusset will still be hanging down.

Shorts right side out. The concrete tie dye is my fabric A.

In case step four sounds a bit confusing, I did a video showing how to bring the gusset up so that you can sew the front together. You can view it here: Riptide Gusset video

Tomorrow we’ll do the drawstrings and channels.
