Welcome to day 1 for the Riptide Reversible Shorties Sew A Long! Today you will be printing your pattern and cutting out your fabric.
First decide which rise you want to make and cut the pattern on the appropriate line. I am doing the low rise version.
For your fabric for this pattern, you will want to choose a 4 way stretch nylon or polyester spandex blend fabric that has at least 50% stretch in both directions. If you need to check the stretch of your fabric, use the chart on page 4. Four inches of fabric will stretch to 6 inches if it has 50%. More stretch is fine, just not less.
For the maternity version, use your hip measurement and cut the waistband following the maternity rise line for the front of the waistband.
Cut out your fabric. You should have the following:
Shorts: 2 mirror images in fabric A and 2 mirror images in fabric B (or lining if non reversible)
Gusset: 1 on fold in fabric A and 1 on fold in fabric B (or lining if non reversible)
Waistband: 2 in fabric A and 2 in fabric B or 4 in fabric A for non reversible for regular. Maternity cut 1 straight in fabric A and 1 straight in fabric B and 1 curved in fabric A and 1 curved in fabric B (or 2 straight and 2 curved in main fabric if non reversible)
Drawstring: 4 in any fabric combination you choose.
Elastic: 1 waistband and 2 legs per cut chart on page 8.
Tomorrow we will begin the assembly!
