Description
Free Pajama Pants! A free PDF sewing pattern for loose-fit unisex pajama pants is my gift to you.
The options include:
- Regular and low-rise
- Side seam pockets
- Elastic waistband
- Cut lines for shorts, capris, and pants
- Optional drawstring
- Optional trim accent on legs
- Tested on both men and women. We recommend women go down one size.
- Want to match the kids? Check out the FREE Kids’ Woven Pajama Pants!
These are loose fitting and we recommend using the outseam for sizing purposes. Outseam can be measured from waist to hem, on the outside of the leg. This pattern can be made in quilting cotton or flannel. If using knit or fleece, consider sizing down. Sizes include XXS – 5XL. The pattern pieces will include separate files for 8.5×11, A4, and A0 formats. PLEASE only use the A4 format if you are using an A4 printer (ie, not in the US)! The tutorial will be a separate file.

This pattern is great! Such an easy sew with many different options to make the perfect comfy pants. The directions are well written with excellent photos and images to help guide you. There is even a layout guide for your fabric! Most PDF patterns do not include this. Also the sizes are layered in the PDF so you can create a pair of pants that fits perfectly! This was my first 5 out of 4 pattern and I was very pleased with everything. There are also 3 different printing options for U.S. and international printers. If you need a pair of pajama pants this is the pattern for you! They’re not just for lounging around the house though because I’m planning on making a pair out of linen for the beach next summer too!

I wanted to make pajama pants for my dad as a christmas gift and I was having trouble finding a good pattern. I made a pair using a store bought pattern and I hated the way they came out! After asking around I was introduced to this pattern so I gave it a shot. SO glad I did! These pants came out perfect, exactly what I was looking for and an easy to follow pattern. I can’t wait to buy more patterns from 5 out of 4.

A great, simple pattern. Easy to follow.
I measured up at the very low end of an XL and I like quite roomy pajamas so went with the XL. They fit well, but in hindsight, I’d go for the L as the finished pajamas really are roomy (it does say this on the pattern, it gives finished measurements too, and also suggests if you’re between sizes that you should choose the size down – but as a larger woman I’m stuck in the mentality of bigger being the safer option!).

Great pattern! My son loved the fit and pockets. I was able to get a pair of size medium high rise out of 2 yards of 60″ wide knit and have enough left over for a size medium men’s boxers and still have a little left over.

While I haven’t made this yet, I LOVE the layers, so much easier to then print on a black and white printer. This will work perfectly for my 10 yr old I can’t find anything that will fit her well.

Easy to sew, good directions. End up very baggy though despite following measuring guides.

Oh my god thank you for this pattern. I’ve wanted so much fabric (mostly remnant) fabric using patterns that really seem incomplete (sizes are off, for example or they have a 1in long short leg and just tell you to add four inches somewhere, but not tell you where or how)
This pattern is beautifully detailed. The PDF for the print pattern alone is a work of art. The layers make it so you can clearly see what pattern line you need, so no trying to find that one spot of color when multiple sizing lines overlap. The instructions are extremely detailed including the sizing the information. There is also a chart that tells you what pattern pages you need to print for the short version or the capri version, saving you time, ink, and paper.
I also appreciate that the elastic and drawstring were planned for in the pattern and I wasn’t trying to add some inches to my cut to make a waistband. It’s something so simple, but there are meaning patterns that want you to add a different type of fabric to encase your elastic.
Keep in mind that because this is a unisex pattern, the legs won’t be very fitted or not fited at all if you have thing legs. I have somewhat large thighs, so this wasn’t a problem for me and for my comfy lounge pants I don’t want tight anyway.
This pattern is a lifesaver. I was starting to get super frustrated and I’m not skilled enough yet to draft my own pattern.
I’m a very beginner sewer and with these instructions and pattern I worked up my first pair of pajama shorts in about two hours from cutting to finishing.

Can I give it seven stars? This is by far the best pajama pants pattern at any price. It has every possible option/feature that you could want. My daughter is really fussy about her pj pants (well, about most things really) and she loved the pants I made her from this pattern. She loves the pockets, drawstring, and low rise. It’s amazing. She’s only 5′ tall so I had to shorten them by a lot, but the curves blended easily. Thank you so much for this pattern.

I’m not a fan of this PJ pants pattern. The waistband design is ugly, and this is clearly a pattern meant for wovens, not for knits. The pocket placement was also far too high. Too bad I wasted some very expensive custom knit fabric cutting these up. I’m now trying to salvage them for another PJ pants pattern.

Wow! I haven’t started sewing yet, I just “bought” this pattern for $0.00!!! Let me tell you, I am so impressed. Wow, I have no other words. I can’t wait to get started. The tutorial is written extremely well, the pattern is easy to understand, AND the layering! I can’t have; I have no more words. Thank you!! I will be back to purchase more patterns. Like the swimsuit or….!

Must have in my house. My husband and I are in love with them. I personally like a higher rise so I added 2 inches above the pockets and they fit me wonderfully!

Best pajama pants pattern – and it’s FREE. How fabulous is that? I love that it has pockets (because, really, what doesn’t need pockets?). I also love that the low-rise option is such a nice curve that lets the waist sit at a great spot in the front while still rising high enough in the back to, er, cover everything when one is lounging around. Thanks for this pattern – I’ll definitely stick with it when making pajamas. I did go down one size as recommended for women (from the 3X my hip measurement put me in to a 2X instead) and the fit was spot on – comfortable and roomy enough without being baggy. I’ve sewn pairs in cotton and flannel so far. Thanks for this pattern!

I’ve done pajama pants before, but this pattern has a contoured waist, so that was a little fussy for me to figure out how to get it all set with a patterned fabric. That being said they sewed up great and I love them! I wear an XL and the size is pretty roomy for me, which is great for lounging about in. I was able to have a nice pair of pj’s by the end of the day – so happy!

Definitely size down! I’m usually an XL and I fit into the medium size. Overall though, the pattern is extremely well written and very easy to follow!

I love this pattern! I took the advice to size down to a small and then tried another pair in medium. I like both for different reasons. The ones that I sized down are slimmer and could almost be made in a fashion fabric for daytime use. However, because of the way I am shaped (wide thighs) the pockets are awkward. The size M is roomy, but not overly so. I love the way that the front and backs are proportioned so the seam line comes forward. I tried both the low and regular rise as I typically prefer a lower rise. In this case the regular rise was my preference. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on your shape. While size is an indicator, we all wear our size in different ways.
I used this pattern to teach some high schoolers how to sew and they all ended up thrilled with their handmade PJs!
My only gripe was that the seam allowances are 3/8″ and I found it hard to do pink or overlock so I ended up zigzagging the seam allowance.

These are my go-to lounge pants. Roomy, comfy, and POCKETS! Those pockets even hold my e-reader! I’ve been looking for a pattern to make lps for my grandkids to match Mom and Dad for Christmas, but nothing compares. I’m just hoping that the smaller sizes will fit them. For This is Spinal Tap fans, this one’s an eleven!

Really lovely drafting. These pants are intended to be a very loose fit. If you prefer something smaller, flat measure, and size down. Many of my students, young and old have enjoyed making these. A great teaching pattern, and it has pockets! We were able to use the smallest size (and shorter length) to make them fit for kids as young as 7-8. Thrilled that there is a kids version now! Thank you 5oo4!

Great pattern! Well designed and love the options for lower rise and drawstring. I also really appreciated the option for making the pants with no side seams. Will definitely be making more! Thanks for the free pattern, very generous!! :))

Had some misgivings when I saw the back of the pants were the same height for both regular rise and low rise, but made the low rise anyway. When finished, the back is inches higher than the front. When you wear them the elastic in the back slides down to match where the front elastic is, which causes 2-3 inches of material to stick out oddly just under the elastic in the back and makes the butt very saggy. I’m going to unpick the entire casing and cut probably two inches off the back and see if I can salvage them. Measured in a small and made a small and they are roomy as stated. If I try again I will probably slide the regular rise down a bit all the way around to create a more even low rise waist, and make the xs.
