Description

The Knot Your Average Shirt and Dress pattern is intended for knit fabrics and has multiple options to meet your changing needs.
The pattern provides:
– Information for maternity modifications
– Detailed instructions to make the pattern nursing friendly for both the shirt and dress versions.
– Sleeveless, elbow length, long, and extra long sleeve options
-Shirt and dress lengths
-Information on ruching the side seams

Interested in making it into a nursing or non-nursing nightgown? I highly recommend using ITY knit because it is incredibly soft and has a great drape.

There’s also an option to cut the pattern as a non-nursing shirt and dress.

The pattern comes in sizes XXS to 3XL and in 8.5×11, A4, and A0 versions.

This is a pattern you can come back to again and again as your body and your life changes. Enjoy! Come and show off your style in our 5 out of 4 Patterns Group on Facebook.

Materials:

  • 1-3 yards of knit fabric (lycra blends work best)
  • clear elastic is optional, but helpful for the breastfeeding version
  • serger and walking foot are helpful but not required

This was so much easier than it looks! Great pattern!

Such a fun and unique pattern! Finished product looks more complex than it really is. With such a well written pattern, it is so easy to do with great step by step pictures to follow. The nursing option is AWESOME! I hate wearing nursing shirts that look like nursing shirts but no one can tell its so nursing friendly just by looking which also means it can still be stylishly worn after nursing days are over.

The best fitting pattern I’ve tried! I’ve made the maternity top and maternity dress and they could not possibly fit me any better. I can’t wait to make some non-maternity items from this pattern!

    Kara Sullivan – March 7, 2015

Love this pattern! It looks more complicated than it is. Love that it takes into account the cup sizes not just chest size – so it provides great coverage while being comfortable and dare I say a bit sexy!

Love this shirt so much! It’s cute, flattering, and works well with my growing belly. I want a whole wardrobe of them!

  6.

    Beverly Kay – March 8, 2015

This pattern is top notch and has so many options! With the clear instructions you will make a top that looks much more difficult to sew up than it is.

I had this pattern for over a month before I finally broke down and started making it. I was super scared thinking it was going to be complicated. Boy was I wrong. Her instructions made everything go together so smoothly. Perfect fit and all. Buy it! You won’t be sorry.

    Marah – March 17, 2018

I held off on buying this for so long thinking the knot was going to be so complicated but kept coming back to it each sale and considering it. I am thrilled that they recently did a sew along with videos showing how to put it together. I made my first Knot Your Average sleeveless version in a 2xl and love it! I can’t wait to make more!

This was a fast and easy sew. The instructions are very clear on how to construct the knot. I made the nursing version and raised the neckline on the modesty panel. I always get compliments every time I wear my Knot top! I can’t wait to make more tops and dresses from this pattern. I can nurse with ease without feeling like I’m exposed.

The fit on this top is beautiful! I don’t usually wear these types of tops because the seam always sits too high up the bust, but the cup size options (based on the difference between the upper, and full bust), means that it fits like a dream. This top is very flattering. I had many compliments on this and people were amazed that it was home made, not shop-bought. I agree with other reviewers, that the pattern is much easier than it looks to sew up. I ended up sewing the neckline hem last, after trying it on and marking where the hem should start and finish near the knot. I used a knit jersey, which was perfect for this pattern.

This top is so flattering. It is a very easy sew and has great follow along directions. I plan to make the dress next time.

Knot Your Average Shirt is one of my favorite patterns! I’ve made it 3 times. It looks good in any fabric. The final shirt looks like it would be complicated but it’s not. The pattern directions are clear and walk you through every step. I can’t wait to make more.
